As a Referee:-
Is the pitch safe? No obstacles No objects likely to cause injury to the players No excess water Not frozen
The best way to ensure this is to walk the pitch – start by walking (or jogging to warm up) around the perimeter, then check the 20 metre and half way lines. This should allow you to see any problems with the pitch.
• Are the Markings clear? If not, ensure you are clear where the 20 metre lines, halfway line and the 10 metre lines should be. If possible as a club official to put training cones on the touchline to assist you.
• Are the post protectors in place? These must be in place. Ensure they are secured firmly to the posts.
• Are corner flags in situ? Check that they are in the correct position and are firmly in the ground. • Are the spectator areas clearly marked out by way of a rope? This is a requirement for all Youth Games
| As a Touch judge:-
You are there as part of a team that is lead by the referee. The referee will discuss issues and any points they wish to make with you prior to leaving the dressing room.
Touch Judges are responsible for checking players kit. Specific checks should be made of the following:
• Hands to ensure nails aren’t dangerous and any strapping on the hands is safe.
• Any padding or protective clothing to ensure it is safe to play and has no sharp or protruding parts that may harm any player.
• Boots – ensure that studs are not sharp and that the boots are in good condition.
